Sea otters are marine mammals, but every now and then they take a break from the water 🌊

While sea otters spend most of their lives floating at the ocean's surface, they will occasionally haul out onto rocks, or secluded shorelines to rest, groom, or simply relax. This behavior is uncommon and often happens in areas where they feel safe from disturbance.

If you're lucky enough to spot a sea otter resting on land, the best thing you can do is give it plenty of space. Disturbing a resting otter can cause it to return to the water before it's ready, using valuable energy it needs for staying healthy.

By observing from a distance, we can help ensure these incredible marine mammals stay wild and thrive.
