Welcome Back to Seattle, Sekiu!

Welcome Back to Seattle, Sekiu!

Via Seattle Aquarium, which writes:

Welcome home, Sekiu! We are delighted to share that Sekiu, a northern sea otter born at the Seattle Aquarium on January 14, 2012, has returned to the Seattle Aquarium after spending the last four years at Point Defiance Zoo as a companion for their two southern sea otters.

Sekiu is the last sea otter born in a zoological facility in the U.S., and will join fellow Seattle Aquarium northern sea otters Adaa and Mishka. Adaa, Sekiu’s father, was rescued after being stranded in Alaska and her mother was the Aquarium’s late otter, Aniak.

Seattle Aquarium and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium have worked together for decades on conservation projects and animal health and welfare, including animal exchanges and cooperative programs, and we are incredibly grateful for our partnership.

Sekiu hasn’t been too far from Seattle Aquarium - Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is in Tacoma, WA, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from her birthplace!
